Order farming is a planned agricultural method where crops and fish are produced specifically to fulfill confirmed buyer requests rather than grown speculatively for open markets. At Tianmei Agriculture in Nansha, Guangzhou, the farm plans its varieties, product sizes, and harvest schedules only after orders are received. Wholesale markets, restaurants and retailers get freshly harvested product, and the farm does not grow for stock nobody has ordered.

How does order farming work at Tianmei?
Growing first and selling later means guessing demand. Order farming puts the order first.
At Tianmei Agriculture, the entire production schedule connects directly to customer orders across several steps:
- Order placement: A wholesale buyer, restaurant group, or food distributor contacts the farm with specific requirements for varieties, quantities, and delivery dates.
- Harvest planning: The farm schedules its grow rooms, aquaculture tanks or fields to meet that request.
- Preparation: Fish are moved into clean water for the 21-day purge, mushrooms are picked fresh from their rooms, and dried products are made on request.
- Dispatch: Orders ship from the farm in Nansha to wholesale stalls, distribution centers or kitchens.
This system gives commercial buyers reliable delivery schedules and consistent product specifications, while allowing the farm to focus resources on items that already have a committed destination.
What products can buyers order from the farm?
Tianmei operates a 51-acre facility in Lanhe Town, Nansha District, incorporating over 200 climate-controlled grow rooms, nearly 150 standard aquaculture tanks, and approximately 38 acres of open field crops.
Buyers can order products across three main categories:
- Phoenix Golden Tilapia: Raised in tanks without antibiotics and capable of adapting to fresh, brackish, or salt water. The fish average about 750 grams each and are purged for 21 days in clean water without food prior to harvest, which removes muddy flavor compounds and firms the flesh. The fish has no black belly lining and no pin bones. It can be ordered live or chilled, or as processed items including fish paste, fish noodles, fish tofu, fish balls, fish cake, and canned fish.
- Cultivated mushrooms and specialty greens: Grown year-round in individual climate-controlled rooms with one variety per room. Available fresh, or dried on request. Varieties include golden ear mushroom, morel mushroom, maitake, cauliflower mushroom, bolete mushroom, red-volva bamboo fungus, phoenix oyster mushroom, and lingzhi. Belgian endive is also cultivated in these controlled environments.
- Field crops: Rice and chili peppers are grown in rotation across roughly 38 acres of field land and are harvested according to the natural growing seasons.
What are the minimum order quantities?
Because everything at the farm is grown, purged, and harvested to order, minimum order volumes depend on the category:
- Specialty mushrooms and Belgian endive: The minimum order is one case, and different varieties can be combined in one order.
- Phoenix Golden Tilapia: The minimum is confirmed per order; single fish are not sold.
- Rice and chili peppers: The minimum and harvest dates are confirmed per order.
